Claude Shortcuts Success: When Automation Actually Works

A journal entry on the joy of getting automation right. How custom Claude shortcuts transformed my development workflow.

Today I finally got the Claude shortcuts working perfectly. After weeks of iteration, the custom commands are seamless.

This is a celebration post.

The Before State

Typical workflow before shortcuts:

  1. Open Claude
  2. Copy-paste context from various sources
  3. Write detailed prompts explaining the task
  4. Wait for response
  5. Manually integrate results back into project
  6. Repeat dozens of times per day

The Joy of Flow

There’s a qualitative difference when tools work seamlessly.

Before shortcuts, every AI interaction was a context switch. I had to stop what I was thinking about, explain the situation to Claude, wait for understanding, get the response, then reconnect to my original task.

Now it’s just: thought → shortcut → result → continue.

The cognitive load reduction is dramatic. I stay in flow longer. Ideas develop without interruption.
