Claude Shortcuts Success: When Automation Actually Works
A journal entry on the joy of getting automation right. How custom Claude shortcuts transformed my development workflow.

Today I finally got the Claude shortcuts working perfectly. After weeks of iteration, the custom commands are seamless.
This is a celebration post.
The Before State
Typical workflow before shortcuts:

What I Learned

The weeks spent building shortcuts felt frustrating. Now I save that time every few days.

Don’t automate everything—automate the most frustrating repetitive tasks first.

Started with simple shortcuts. Added complexity as patterns emerged.

When something breaks in 6 months, I’ll need to understand how it was supposed to work.
The Shortcuts That Failed
Not everything worked. Failed experiments included:

- Universal translator: Context requirements too complex

These failures taught me the boundaries of useful automation.

Conclusion
Getting automation right takes iteration. There’s no shortcut to creating good shortcuts.
But when it works—when a single command triggers exactly the workflow you need—the productivity gains are transformative.
